Pongal - Tamil Harvest Festival celebrated over a few days. On the first day of the harvest festival in every home early in the morning, rice is cooked in a decorated Claypot with pure black sugar extracted from sugar cane and milk added creating sweet milky aromatic rice.
Prayers are performed in honour of Surya ( Sun God ) thanking him for agricultural blessings and abundance.
It is said that, if the milk bubbles over and the pot is brimming full of rice, then lady luck is blessing you with positive abundance and joys and prosperity in all aspects of your life, your family and loved ones will be protected and prosper.
